Job summary

CHS Career Site is seeking a Surgical Technologist – Open Heart to join our operating room team in Dothan, AL. The role supports the surgical team by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, anticipating instrument needs, and ensuring proper handling of tools and supplies.

CST certification and BLS are required. You will assist with patient positioning, draping, counts, and room setup for procedures, while upholding infection control protocols and physician preference cards.

Qualifications

• CST certification is required and BLS certification is required.
• 0–2 years operating room experience preferred.
• Graduate of a surgical technology program or equivalent education.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the OR by organizing instruments, equipment, and supplies per procedure and physician card.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout procedures using aseptic technique and Universal Precautions.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments accurately during surgeries.
• Handle instruments and equipment per hospital policy, including sterilization and inspection.
• Document sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse for safety.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction.
• Support accuracy of physician preference cards and procedural documentation.
• Restock supplies, clean and return equipment, and prep rooms for next cases.
