Job summary

Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO, is seeking an Outpatient Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor to oversee the SCI/TBI program within Therapeutic Recreation. You will supervise clinical staff, promote high standards of patient care, ethics, and professional behavior, and provide ongoing education and mentoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation with therapeutic emphasis required.
  • BLS for Health Care Provider certification from American Heart Association required; CRTS certification or eligibility preferred.
  • Colorado driver’s license in good standing and insurable.
  • 1–3 years of clinical/community experience with SCI/TBI patients; leadership experience preferred.

  • Coordinate departmental procedures and review reports; work with coworkers to plan department activities.
  • Create schedules and adjust staffing levels based on patient needs.
  • Provide staff education and precept new hires and departmental students.
  • Support Joint Commission, OSHA and regulatory requirements; participate in quality initiatives.
  • Coordinate Therapeutic Recreation programs across departments to ensure quality patient care.
  • Collaborate with nursing and therapy directors on staffing and program direction.
  • Develop and sustain TR programs for patients and families, including social and therapeutic activities.
  • May perform essential duties of TR staff for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

Job description

Location: 3425 S Clarkson St, Englewood, CO 80113.

Schedule: Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM, occasional nights and weekends required.

Salary Range: $28.93 / Hour - $41.67 / Hour.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Outpatient Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor is responsible for managing and administering the SCI or TBI program within the Therapeutic Recreation department, including professional supervision and direction to clinical staff. This position is responsible for promoting clinical innovation and high standards of performance in the areas of patient care, ethics and professional behavior. The T-Rec Supervisor will provide ongoing education and mentoring for current staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Current BLS for the Health Care Provider certification from the American Heart Association required. Certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CRTS) or eligible, preferred upon hire. Must have a current, valid Colorado driver’s license in good standing and insurable.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in recreation with therapeutic emphasis required. Bachelors of Science in Therapeutic Recreation preferred.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of clinical and/or community experience working with traumatic spinal cord and brain injury patients required. Leadership experience preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities: Supervisory, team-building, conflict resolution, and communication skills; both verbal and written. Skilled in directing, motivating and training high-performing staff. Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills and provide a positive attitude, direction, and discipline for the therapeutic recreation department. Able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Possess the ability to develop and implement programs, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary to ensure that the highest quality of care is consistently provided to our patients. Use professional judgment to identify areas for improvement and participate in the development of quality initiatives. Work collaboratively with hospital senior leadership, department heads and physicians.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide direction and supervision of departmental personnel, demonstrate professional judgment, use problem-solving techniques and delegate appropriately. Collaborate with the department team to assess and allocate staff resources on a daily basis, based on departmental needs.
  • Provide leadership in the development of performance standards for all departmental personnel. Evaluate and counsel all employees on their performance in a professional and timely manner. Plan and develop an ongoing educational program for the department as appropriate.
  • Assist with the implementation and coordination of departmental procedures based on the policies and procedures of the department. Participate in the review of reports, records, and directives and confer with coworkers to obtain data required for planning department activities.
  • Assist with creating schedules and making changes to staffing levels accordingly. Analyze employee workload and adjust as necessary.
  • Provide staff education and precept new staff hires, new staff, interns and departmental students.
  • Participate in the department's performance improvement initiatives in preparation for the Joint Commission, OSHA and any other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Ensure effective coordination of Therapeutic Recreation programs through interdepartmental collaboration and direct supervision of employees.
  • Promote an environment that supports the delivery of quality care to patients.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and therapy directors to assess and allocate staff resources based on patient needs and assist in hospital program direction and long-range planning with other department directors.
  • Develop and sustain therapeutic recreation programs appropriate to the needs of patients and their families that include, but are not limited to, social activities, indoor/outdoor events, activities away from the facility, spiritual activities, creative activities and Adventure Program outings and trips. Provide direction for new program development, new treatment techniques and equipment.
  • May perform essential job duties and responsibilities of the staff Therapeutic Recreation therapists as relates to direct patient care, including treatment of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, and adapting the treatment plan as needed.
