UNC Health in Chapel Hill invites applications for the Student Nurse Extern I (SNE I) program running May 24 – July 31, 2027. The extern works with an RN partner on a 36-hour week, providing direct and indirect care, observing patient status, and participating in the care team on the 28-bed GI Surgery & Surgical Oncology unit.

Prerequisites include enrollment in a nursing program, high school diploma or GED, and BLS; Nursing Assistant I certification is required.

Qualificações

High school diploma or GED required; higher level degree may satisfy.
Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the NC DHHS; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsabilidades

Provide routine direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision.
Observe, collect, and document patient information; report changes promptly.
Assist with admissions, orientation, and discharge; support families.
Assist in examinations and procedures; procure equipment and supplies during emergencies.
Support unit operations, restock supplies, and maintain a clean work area.
