Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center seeks a Specimen Processing Services Specialist I to promote professional communication with patients and staff. The role performs blood specimen processing and phlebotomy, processes specimens, and supports quality programs. Onsite, 40 hours/week at South Lake Union Campus.

H-1B sponsorship not typically offered. The position requires a high school diploma, basic medical terminology, ability to lift 25 lbs, and proficiency with email/data entry.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or the equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.
• Proficient in the use of email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment.
• Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing of blood specimens.
• Performs venipuncture phlebotomy on patients, donors, research participants and employees where required.
• Able to learn computer skills in a timely manner.
• Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and sendout sites.
• Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs and projects.
• Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required.
• Responsible for receiving patients at the Alliance Laboratory for blood draw appointments and scheduling walk-in appointments.
• May be asked to cover alternative shifts or weekends as needed per staffing.
• Has the ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing workloads.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Meets attendance and punctuality expectations.
