Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Pathologist Assistant for a 40-hour, day-shift position across Worcester campuses. The PA will rotate campuses weekly, covering 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM shifts as needed.

A Bachelor's degree is mandatory; a Master’s degree and AAPA-approved certification are preferred. The role includes gross pathology tasks, tissue submission, tumor bank maintenance, and participation in teaching residents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field is required.
• Master’s degree as a Pathologist Assistant is preferred.
• Certification as a Pathologist Assistant from an AAPA-approved program is required for PA role.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross surgical pathology functions including dissection and gross dictation of surgical specimens.
• Selects and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination and special studies.
• Maintains tumor bank specimens and participates in quality assurance.
• Assists in training residents and fellows in surgical and decedent pathology tasks.
• Participates in liver biopsies and other selected biopsies for diagnostic and research purposes.
• Oversees accessioning and logging of surgical specimens and assists pathologists.
