Job summary

NJRetina, part of Prism Vision Group, is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant for an onsite, nonexempt role in Jersey City, NJ. You will perform measurements and tests to support physicians and document information accurately while delivering excellent patient service.

Primary duties include chart review, history-taking, tests such as OCT and visual fields, scribing, assisting with exams, administering medications, educating patients, and maintaining clean, compliant exam rooms.

Qualifications

• OA1 Experience: 0-2 years ophthalmic assistant experience
• OAII Experience: 2+ years ophthalmic assistant experience
• Education: High School/GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history, including OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry.
• Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp exam including tonometry and anterior chamber assessment, basic muscle balance testing, assesses pupils, visual fields and gross external exam.
• Acts as scribe while the physician examines patients, entering data into EMR or handwritten notes.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Assists ensuring office procedures are adhered to and required informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Oversees patient flow throughout the day.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms.
• Maintains compliance with all procedures and regulations.
