Job summary

American Exchange Group in New York, NY seeks a creative Footwear Designer to lead women’s and kids’ footwear design and development. You’ll translate fashion trends into market-ready products, collaborate with design, merchandising, product development, and overseas factories, and deliver seasonal collections with cost-conscious execution.

The role requires strong CAD, Adobe Creative Suite skills, and a proven track record of producing production-ready specs in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of footwear design experience, preferably women’s or kids or value-focused footwear.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating commercial footwear design and product development.
• Understanding of footwear construction, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
• Experience creating CADs, technical drawings, colorways and production specs.
• Experience working with overseas factories and vendors is preferred.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration with Merchandising, Sales, Product Development, and Production.

Responsibilities

• Takes direction with Design Director to conceptualize and design trend-right women’s and kid’s footwear.
• Research current fashion, footwear, color, material, and consumer trends for opportunities.
• Translate trends into commercially viable footwear designs at target costs.
• Develop seasonal footwear collections across classifications, price points, and channels.
• Create detailed sketches, CADs, colorways, and technical drawings for production.
• Specify materials, components, trims, colors, and construction while maintaining costs.
• Collaborate with overseas factories to ensure design intent, quality, cost, and timelines.
• Review samples, provide revisions and approvals for final product.
• Participate in line reviews, market research, and customer meetings as needed.
• Maintain awareness of competitive products in moderate, juniors, private label, off-price markets.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
