Qualifications

• Fluent, strong verbal skills in both source and target language (Swahili-English).
• Familiar with ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• HIPAA training completed within the last year.
• Proof of language proficiency via a medical assessment.
• Completion of an accredited medical interpreting training (40-hour or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Provide effective on-site interpreting services in medical settings.
• Maintain professional appearance, punctuality, and preparedness for shifts.
• Adapt quickly to new technologies used in interpreting sessions.
• Pass screening before taking assignments.
• Adhere to interpreter ethics and procedural requirements for healthcare contexts.
• Respect LEP clients and their cultural and medical preferences.
• Maintain strong customer service and interpreting skills.
