Job summary

Fabric8Labs in San Diego, CA is seeking a Software Engineer to build the software layer that connects our printers to the operators on the shop floor. This hands-on role focuses on production dashboards, real-time hardware interaction, and data flow from the shop floor to ERP.

You will design PostgreSQL schemas, implement Python backend services, and collaborate with hardware engineers and operators to turn problems into reliable software.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• Strong Python — primary language for backend services and hardware interaction.
• Deep PostgreSQL schema design and query optimization.
• Proficient in Linux development, deployment, debugging on real hardware.
• Experience with JavaScript for UI components.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain internal applications, dashboards, and services powering manufacturing workflows.
• Design PostgreSQL schemas and write queries and migrations.
• Implement Python backend services and real-time hardware interaction.
• Build integrations between shop-floor systems and ERP: work orders, routing, and lot tracking.
• Ensure traceability and auditability of production data.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and operators to turn problems into reliable software.
