Job summary

Baker Group in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Human Resources and Safety Coordinator to support onsite HR and safety operations. This role focuses on onboarding, benefits, compliance, and data accuracy to sustain consistent service across teams.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree and at least 3 years in HR or safety administration, preferably with construction or union exposure. Strong MS Office and HRIS experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in HR, Business, Safety, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of HR, safety administration, or administrative support.
• Experience in construction or union environments preferred.
• Familiarity with Workers’ Compensation processes.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience with HRIS/HCM systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred).
• Familiarity with safety training platforms and compliance tracking systems.
• Experience with Bluebeam or similar PDF tools is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and operate in a dynamic environment.
• Proactive mindset with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to build partnerships across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate onboarding for union and non-union team members for in-office and job sites.
• Support time records collection and payroll inputs accuracy.
• Assist with recruiting, interview coordination, and intern program support.
• Support employee engagement activities and ESOP events.
• Provide benefits support, including open enrollment assistance.
• Assist with background checks, drug screenings, and insurance documentation.
• Provide technical support for HRIS/HCM systems and maintain data flow.
• Track training certifications and third-party credentialing.
• Coordinate safety training programs using ClickSafety, Gatefeed, Training Vault, ISN, AVETTA.
• Monitor CEUs, schedule safety meetings and training sessions.
• Coordinate drug and alcohol testing for hires and job sites.
