Baker Group is seeking a Human Resources and Safety Coordinator to support HR and safety operations at its Cedar Rapids, IA location (onsite). In this role, you will help keep people programs running smoothly while supporting a workplace culture that emphasizes safety, engagement, and consistent service across teams.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate onboarding for union and non-union team members for both in-office roles and job site assignments.
- Support time record collection and verification to help ensure accurate payroll inputs.
- Assist with recruiting efforts, including interview coordination and intern program support.
- Support employee engagement initiatives such as ESOP events, recognition events, flu shot clinics, and resource groups.
- Provide benefits support, including open enrollment assistance.
- Assist with background checks, drug screenings, and tracking of required insurance documentation.
- Provide technical support for HRIS/HCM systems and help maintain HR data flow.
- Track and manage training certifications and third-party credentialing.
- Coordinate and track safety training programs using ClickSafety, Gatefeed, Training Vault, and third-party platforms such as ISN and AVETTA.
- Monitor certification expirations and continuing education requirements, including CEUs.
- Schedule safety meetings and training sessions.
- Conduct and coordinate drug and alcohol testing for new hires, job sites, and post-accident needs.
- Maintain safety supplies and manage PPE inventory.
- Assist with tracking and submitting boot and safety glasses reimbursements.
- Support safety communications through the intranet and other internal platforms.
- Assist Safety Managers and Specialists with administrative needs, including performance management tracking in PerformYard.
- Support coordination of EOS (Bloom) meetings and collaborate with HR and Safety teams to support consistent service delivery.
Requirements
- Associate degree in HR, Business, Safety, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in HR, safety administration, or administrative support.
- Experience in construction or union environments preferred.
- Familiarity with Workers’ Compensation processes.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with HRIS/HCM systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred).
- Familiarity with safety training platforms and compliance tracking systems.
- Experience with Bluebeam or similar PDF tools is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and participating in remote meetings.
- Ability to lift 10 pounds occasionally.
- Occasional travel to job sites for onboarding new team members or other needs, plus monthly visits (1–2 times) to the Ankeny location.
