Job summary

Baker Group is seeking a Safety Specialist to promote and maintain a safe, incident-free work environment at our Ankeny, IA sites. You will lead safety programs, enforce regulations, and coordinate training to protect workers and subcontractors.

The role demands strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage incident reporting and Workers' Compensation processes while staying updated on OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety or related field OR equivalent experience.
• Three (3) years’ experience in construction safety and/or OSHA training.

Responsibilities

• Conduct new hire employment and safety orientations.
• Provide oversight and enforce safety compliance among subcontractors.
• Audit jobsites to identify health and safety risks; implement corrective measures.
• Deliver onsite safety training sessions.
• Operate and maintain safety equipment (air monitors, fall protection, confined space gear).
• Maintain knowledge of OSHA regulations and project safety requirements.
• Input and manage training records in the Training Vault system.
• Develop and maintain standard safety policies and procedures.
• Administer onsite drug and alcohol tests as needed.
