Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking an HPC Systems Engineer to own day-to-day operation, maintenance, and optimization of production and development HPC clusters supporting CAE, CFD, and FEA workflows.

You will manage a RHEL-based HPC environment, Slurm scheduler, NFS storage, licenses, and environment modules; provide user support and scripting automation; and collaborate with engineers to ensure reliable, high-performance computing in a startup-style Formula 1 program.

Qualifications

• Linux system administration in data center environments.
• Slurm or similar HPC workload managers.
• Cluster management tools such as Bright Cluster Manager / NVIDIA Base Command Manager.
• NVIDIA GPU and driver administration.
• Bash and Python scripting.
• Strong networking fundamentals with RDMA/InfiniBand exposure.
• MPI/NUMA topology and performance tuning.
• NFS and shared filesystem administration.
• Familiarity with CFD/FEA software.
• Analytical troubleshooting and hypothesis-driven problem solving.
• Comfort with vendor documentation and unfamiliar problems.
• Clear communication with engineering end users.
• Disciplined change control on production systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the HPC environment with patching, imaging, drivers, and node health monitoring.
• Administer Slurm partitions, QoS, accounting, and reservations.
• Manage NFS storage, quotas, and permissions.
• Handle license servers and license enforcement.
• Install and maintain simulation software and environment modules.
• Provide user support and onboarding for job scripts and failures.
• Investigate performance and reliability issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Develop shell scripts for automation, health checks, and tooling.
• Own vendor tickets through resolution and coordinate with vendors.
• Support build-out of additional cluster capacity.
