Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Technician to support the DSA Finance team. The role handles routine financial transactions, purchasing, travel, stipends, and related processes on campus.

Reporting to the Budget Analyst, the technician uses RealSource, Banner, Chrome River, and Smartsheet to maintain accurate records and ensure compliant operations. Strong Excel/Sheets skills and confidentiality are essential. Fully onsite with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent or related experience.
• Entry-level experience in administrative, financial, transactional, customer service, or related work.
• Ability to enter, review, and maintain data and financial information accurately.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail and accuracy with high-volume transactions.
• Ability to learn and use financial/administrative systems.
• Ability to use spreadsheet applications to organize, sort, filter, and maintain data.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and escalate when needed.

Responsibilities

• Process routine financial transactions using university systems (RealSource, Banner, Chrome River).
• Prepare and process electronic purchase requisitions, journal vouchers, PCard transactions, travel pre-authorizations, reservations, and reimbursements.
• Process student stipends and reimbursements using RealSource, Candex, Chrome River.
• Enter and maintain financial data with high accuracy and timeliness.
• Review transactions for completeness and policy compliance.
• Identify discrepancies and elevate issues when needed.
• Reconcile purchase card transactions and PO under $10,000.
• Maintain records and documentation for financial transactions.
• Update daily financial data in Smartsheet and related systems.
• Retrieve and summarize financial information using Excel/Google Sheets.
• Provide routine financial information to supervisor and staff.
• Provide professional customer service to students, faculty, vendors, and departments.
• Respond to routine questions and guide on established processes.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
