The role oversees accounting processes, payroll, cash management, audits, and budget coordination within a mission-driven nonprofit, with a focus on internal controls and transparent reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior individual contributor role
  • Nonprofit fund accounting experience, including familiarity with donor-restricted and unrestricted net assets
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, approval workflows, and documentation standards
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general financial systems
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in a compliance-sensitive environment

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve expense transactions in RAMP with proper documentation, GL coding accuracy, and fund availability.
  • Return transactions with weak documentation or incorrect coding.
  • Initiate or approve ACH and wire transfers in Tradition Bank for payments outside RAMP.
  • Monitor daily cash balances and review ACH Positive Pay items.
  • Escalate cash position concerns, unusual transactions, or banking irregularities to the COO.
  • Respond to questions from staff, fielded workers, and vendors via email or Teams.
  • Initiate bill pay requests in RAMP as requested by staff.
  • Meet weekly with the COO to provide updates and escalate items for VP of Finance decision.
  • Maintain EOS rocks and key agenda items for department planning.
  • Maintain vendor contracts and ensure records are documented and filed.
  • Serve as primary contact for banking relationships and routine bank communications.
  • Set up new vendors in RAMP, collect W-9 documentation, and ensure vendor records are complete.
  • Review and approve payroll prepared by HR in ADP, including payroll variance checks before approval.
  • Monitor fielded worker account balances and flag shortfalls before payroll.
  • Coordinate with HR on payroll questions, compensation changes, and new hire setup.
  • Oversee donor gift processing and GAU assignment; support donor database accuracy with the Director of Accounting.
  • Sign donor acknowledgment letters and verify receipts are mailed.
  • Provide daily oversight to Finance Office staff and respond via call, Teams, or in person.
  • Schedule Audit Committee meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and coordinate with COO and Chair.
  • Compile materials for quarterly Audit Committee meetings under VP of Finance direction.
  • Prepare for and attend Leadership Team and Global Team meetings; support quarterly offsite meetings and rock updates.
  • Be available during audit week to respond to auditor questions and coordinate with Capin Crouse.
  • Assist with audit schedules and workpapers with the Director of Accounting.
  • Maintain documentation for significant financial transactions and controls.
