Job summary

Virginia Highlands Community College seeks an Academic Tutor in English & Humanities for the MARC, Learning Resources Division. This part-time role supports students enrolled at the college, assists faculty, and helps maintain tutoring services.

Responsibilities include tutoring in English and related subjects, coordinating with MARC coordinator, recording sessions, welcoming patrons, responding to inquiries, and helping with programming.

Qualifications

• Grade of no less than B in the desired subject.
• Prior tutoring/teaching/student support experience.
• Flexible schedule including 29 hours per week.
• Detail oriented with strong communication.
• Knowledge of AI, MLA/APA, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in English, basic math up to Calculus II, chemistry, biology, and other subjects.
• Assist MARC staff, schedule tutoring appointments, and maintain session records.
• Greet and direct patrons, respond to inquiries via Teams.
• Maintain MARC and LRC spaces and support programming/events.
