Automotive & Mobility in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking an Automotive Axle Design Engineer to own the full life cycle of axle components, from requirements to serial life maintenance. You will lead design release for structures, seals, and fasteners, review CAD drawings with GD&T, and drive DFMEA/DVPR/FMEA artifacts in a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in propulsion systems, automatic transmissions, or related field.
• Knowledge of axle systems or components and experience as a Design and Release Engineer (DRE) in OEM and/or Tier 1 supplier environments to OEMs.
• Proficiency in GD&T, creating drawings of components, and virtual analysis.
• Strong interpersonal communication and team leadership skills, including comfort presenting to executive leadership teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full life cycle of key axle-related components and sub-assemblies, including defining requirements, conceptual design, supplier sourcing, manufacturing, validation, industrialization, and serial life maintenance (e.g., field issue resolution and warranty reduction).
• Design and release responsible for key components for structures, seals, and fastener components; lead change-management for respective components.
• Ensure design best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvements are integrated into the product design release process.
• Lead technical infrastructure evolution for key components, including documentation, specifications, requirements definitions, and drawing signoffs; review CAD and 2D drawings including GD&T.
• Own and update DFMEA, DVPR, and FMEA artifacts; develop timelines, drive deliverables, present action plans with status/risks, and root-cause build issues found during pre-production and warranty analysis after launch.
