Job summary

Coats in LaVergne, TN is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to develop embedded software for our automotive service equipment. This is hands-on work testing on shop floors and labs, wiring software to motors, sensors, and hardware.

You will collaborate with electrical, hardware, and manufacturing engineers across the full development lifecycle, from requirements through testing, debugging and field support. This is an on-site role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
• 2-6 years of professional Embedded software experience for machines or hardware-based systems.
• Hands-on interfacing software with hardware (sensors, motors, protocols).
• Proficiency in C# / .NET and Visual Studio.
• Strong OO programming and software design skills.
• Experience with Git and bug-tracking tools (Atlassian/Jira a plus).
• Ability to own features through full software lifecycle independently.
• Comfort with hands-on debugging using lab tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and test embedded firmware and software for automotive service machines.
• Interface software with machine hardware, including sensors, actuators, motor controllers, and control systems.
• Test and troubleshoot directly on machines, on the shop floor and in the lab.
• Collaborate with electrical, hardware, and manufacturing engineers to define requirements and resolve issues.
• Participate in code reviews, test planning, and deployment of new features.
• Ensure software meets performance, reliability, and safety standards.
