Job summary

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL is seeking a psychiatrist faculty member to provide clinical, teaching and research leadership within the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Adult Psychiatry. The role includes inpatient, outpatient and consultation-liaison duties with ECT privileges at assigned hospitals.

You will contribute to teaching medical students and residents, participate in scholarship, and engage in administrative service.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited program.
• Completed four years of approved psychiatry residency.
• Licensed or eligible for Illinois licensure.
• Board certified or eligible in Psychiatry.
• Expected to obtain board certification within 3 years of hire.
• Must have sufficient ECT experience to be privileged at assigned hospitals.
• Willing to be trained in TMS, Esketamine, and/or VNS.
• Experience serving multicultural populations.

Responsibilities

• Teach medical students, residents and fellows; lead rounds, conferences and seminars.
• Provide inpatient and consult-liaison coverage, including ECT, at SIU-affiliated hospitals.
• Participate in call schedule and weekend/holiday coverage.
• Establish lines of research and publish peer-reviewed articles every 3 years.
• Supervise resident research and maintain SCRIHS certification.
• Participate in departmental and school governance and service obligations.
• Serve as a mentor for psychiatry clerkship.
• Maintain professional outpatient practice in accordance with SIU HealthCare policy.
• Provide inpatient and/or consultation-liaison coverage at hospitals including coverage of ECT.
• Participate in call schedule and other routine faculty coverage duties of inpatient and consultation/liaison services on weekends and holidays.
• Establish lines of research on own or in collaboration with colleagues.
• Publish one peer-reviewed article every three years.
• Develop a line of publishable scholarly activity.
• Supervise resident research as applicable.
• Maintain certification per SCRIHS.
• Participate in administrative meetings as assigned.
• Serve on departmental and school committees as required and represent the department as needed.
