Job summary

ND State Hospital in Jamestown, ND seeks a Heating Plant Operator to provide safe and energy‑efficient operation, maintenance and repair of the central heating plant to supply a reliable steam system for campus buildings. You will manage boilers, pumps, chillers, and related equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and conduct chemical testing of condensate water.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent with two years in trades, knowledge of high‑pressure boiler systems,

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in one or more trades, or related work showing general knowledge of tasks.
• Vocational or technical education in a related field may substitute for up to one year of the work experience requirement.
• Knowledge of high‑pressure boilers and steam distribution; ability to operate, maintain and adjust boilers and related equipment.
• Safety‑mocused mindset and ability to work independently or in a team while maintaining documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, chillers, towers and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs; read meters and gauges and log data.
• Inspect low pressure boilers per procedures and perform daily boiler/condensate water chemical testing.
• Maintain required records and prepare reports as directed.
• Commitment to safety and comfort of individuals on campus; demonstrate initiative and clear communication.
