Job summary

UChicago Medicine seeks a Transfusion Medicine Technologist in the Blood Bank Laboratory at the Hyde Park campus. This 100% onsite role handles routine and specialized testing, prepares and issues blood components, and ensures accuracy through QC and regulatory compliance.

The position requires a BS in clinical laboratory science, CLS credentials (MT/BB or SBB) and CLIA high-complexity qualification, with opportunity for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000.

Qualifications

• Must satisfy CLIA 88 qualification requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testing.
• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or related field from an accredited college or University.
• Certification or eligibility as medical technologist (MT) or (BB), or specialist in transfusion medicine (SBB) through ASCP, or equivalent.
• Knowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospitals information systems.
• Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge or training in southern blot and other molecular biology protocols.
• Ability to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens submitted to blood bank and determine processing eligibility.
• Performs blood typing and antibody screening with high accuracy.
• Performs donor unit processing and labeling of blood products per requirements.
• Performs complex antibody identification and matches blood products for transfusion.
• Prepares and dispenses blood product coolers for massive transfusion protocol and ensures readiness.
• Performs final check on blood products and patient testing before dispense to patient.
