Job summary

Oklahoma City Community College seeks a Student Writing Tutor to provide writing support in the Writing Center, assisting students with assignments and writing development, both in person and online.

The role reports to the Division of Arts, English & Humanities and supports faculty and students with writing tasks.

Flexible hours during Fall and Spring; Saturdays possible, with focus on MLA style, writing process and online tutoring.

Qualifications

• Must be a current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for fall or spring, or 3 hours for summer.
• Current OCCC Student with a Federal Work Study Award.
• Must have completed ENGL 1113 and ENGL 1213 with a final grade of B or above, or be recommended by a faculty member with a writing sample.
• GPA over 2.5 (cumulative or institutional).

Responsibilities

• Assist students in individualized learning exercises and writing support in the Writing Center.
• Provide writing assistance through the Writing Center’s online tutoring program.
• Reinforce classroom instruction with supplemental academic support and explanation of course materials.
• Support faculty and students in the use of computers and educational resources.
• Perform routine clerical and administrative duties for the center.
• Provide information on student progress by filling tutoring forms.
• Participate in tutor training sessions and professional development.
• Conduct tours of the center and in-class presentations as needed.
