Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide students with a personalized and rigorous online learning experience via a Learning Management System that fulfills their potential for academic and social growth. The online instructor will deliver state‑aligned curriculum through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction, conducted from a set, professional workspace designed to minimize distractions and maximize instructional quality. The instructor is responsible for guiding students toward TEKS mastery while maintaining constant communication with families and utilizing data to drive student engagement and achievement.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university; Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/level assigned.
  • Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Knowledge of assigned curriculum and instructional methods.
    • Lesson planning and presentation skills.

    • Use Canvas to teach online.

Work Conditions
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; equipment required to demonstrate and perform tasks related to assigned subject area.
  • Posture: Frequent standing and walking; bending/stooping and reaching fully above head, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent typing, keyboarding.
  • Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting over 50 lbs.; may lift and move AV equipment, classroom equipment.
  • Environment: Constant exposure to computer screen; occasional districtwide and statewide travel.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; respond to needs in a timely manner in a high stress environment; work prolonged or irregular hours—must be able to dedicate after school hours, including weekends, to the online class.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function.
  • Minimum Experience: University/college required student teaching or approved internship; experience in online learning and/or instruction preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Management
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for virtual learning that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Implement and maintain the integrity of the online course as written.
  • Assess student learning styles and interests and adjust the course to accommodate individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and emerging digital trends to make content engaging and accessible.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule available during non‑school hours, including evenings and weekends, to respond to student inquiries and facilitate live sessions.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning; establish netiquette rules.
  • Maintain a professional workspace designated for virtual instruction; ensure background noise is minimized.
  • Maintain all reports, records, and other required documents.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement via formative and summative assessments.
  • Track progress and provide progress reports as required.
  • Present a positive role model supporting the mission of AISD.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Establish effective virtual classroom management and administer discipline per board policies and regulations.
Communication
  • Maintain consistent contact with students to ensure proper engagement.
  • Keep open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use clear communication skills to present information accurately.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in district staff development program to improve job‑related skills.
  • Cooperate with virtual online staff to plan and implement instructional goals per district requirements.
  • Show initiative and interest in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and documents.
