Job description

Salary: $100,000.00 (negotiable)

Summary: Quality Analytics Associates (QAA) is accepting resumes for a team of qualified Online & Hybrid Learning Instructors/Facilitators to support the U.S. Air Force Air University, Air Force Global College (AFGC). Instructors will support AFGC's worldwide delivery of student-centered Professional Military Education (PME) and developmental education through online, hybrid, and, when required, face-to-face instructional environments.

This is an open opportunity position based on future anticipated needs. Positions are contingent upon contract award, instructional demand, candidate qualification for applicable curriculum areas, and Government approval where required. Because AFGC instruction is demand-driven, instructional assignments and workloads may vary based upon student enrollment, curriculum requirements, delivery modality, and Government scheduling. Current and former AFGC/Air University faculty and other experienced military and civilian educators with relevant PME, academic, or subject-matter expertise are encouraged to apply.

Instructional Areas

QAA is seeking candidates with academic, professional, military, or instructional expertise applicable to one or more of the following AFGC curriculum areas:

  • Strategy & Security Studies
  • Airpower Studies
  • Leadership & Profession of Arms Studies
  • Warfare Studies
  • Joint Operations Studies
  • Research/Graduate Skills
  • Faculty Development

Candidates should clearly identify their applicable subject-matter areas when applying.

Key Responsibilities

Depending upon course assignment and delivery modality, instructors/facilitators will:

  • Facilitate graduate- and/or undergraduate-level online instruction.
  • Facilitate hybrid courses combining online and face-to-face instructional activities.
  • Assign required readings and instructional activities.
  • Lead and facilitate online threaded discussions.
  • Present instructional materials and facilitate student discussions.
  • Create and manage student groups within the applicable learning environment.
  • Review and grade student assignments.
  • Apply Government-provided grading rubrics and academic standards consistently.
  • Provide substantive, individualized feedback to students.
  • Promote critical thinking and higher-order learning.
  • Provide group and individual student feedback.
  • Post and maintain course announcements and other instructional communications.
  • Submit grades, course reports, and other required educational information.
  • Coordinate curriculum-related activities.
  • Participate in synchronous instruction using live video communications software when required.
  • Employ traditional classroom/face-to-face instructional techniques when assigned to hybrid or in-person instruction.
  • Provide short-form feedback following course completion to support curriculum modification and continuous improvement.
  • Comply with applicable Air University and AFGC handbooks, policies, procedures, and performance standards.

Graduate-level assignments will involve additional workload, including longer papers, more in-depth discussions, and more frequent student interactions.

Online Instruction

Online instructor-student interaction will be primarily asynchronous, although instructors may also be required to conduct synchronous activities using live video communications software.

Candidates should therefore be comfortable:

  • Facilitating asynchronous online discussions.
  • Maintaining meaningful instructor presence in an online environment.
  • Providing timely and substantive written feedback.
  • Evaluating written academic work.
  • Managing multiple students and instructional activities electronically.
  • Conducting synchronous video-based instruction and discussions when required.
  • Learning and effectively using Government-provided learning management and instructional systems.
Hybrid / Face-to-Face Instruction

Some AFGC offerings may combine online instruction with traditional classroom instruction.

Candidates selected for these assignments must be capable of:

  • Facilitating face-to-face classroom discussions.
  • Presenting instructional material effectively.
  • Applying student-centered instructional methods.
  • Managing collaborative classroom activities.
  • Transitioning effectively between online and classroom learning environments.
  • Traveling to authorized instructional locations when required.

Travel may be required for Task 2 performance and will be coordinated in accordance with contract requirements.

Typical Class Environment

Facilitated offerings generally include:

  • 10–30 students per class, with a target class size of approximately 16–20 students.
  • Instructional requirements are demand-driven and may consist of one-week instructional periods combined into courses of varying lengths.
  • AFGC currently conducts graduate- and undergraduate-level distance-learning courses of approximately 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks, although schedules and course lengths may change based on Government requirements.
Faculty Development Opportunities

Qualified personnel may also be selected to support AFGC faculty-development activities.

Faculty-development topics may include:

  • Online skills and technical training
  • Pedagogical training
  • Best practices for online education
  • Online teaching philosophy
  • Policies and procedures
  • Online coursework
  • Online student facilitation
  • Online instructional tools
  • Practice instruction
  • Individual coaching

Personnel selected to facilitate faculty-development activities must possess qualifications and experience appropriate to the assigned subject.

Candidate Qualifications

Because faculty assignments cover multiple curriculum areas and educational levels, qualifications will be evaluated against the specific AFGC subject area and instructional requirement for which the candidate is being considered.

Competitive candidates should demonstrate:

  • Relevant academic, military, professional, or subject-matter expertise applicable to one or more AFGC curriculum areas.
  • Experience teaching, facilitating, mentoring, or educating adult learners.
  • Ability to facilitate student-centered learning and collaborative educational experiences.
  • Ability to promote critical thinking and substantive academic discussion.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate student work and provide substantive, tailored feedback.
  • Ability to apply established grading rubrics consistently.
  • Ability to work effectively in an online learning environment.
  • Ability to use or rapidly learn learning management systems, video collaboration platforms, and other instructional technologies.
  • Professional judgment and the ability to comply with established academic and behavioral standards.

Experience supporting Air University, Air Force PME, Joint PME, military education, distance learning, graduate education, or other Department of Defense professional education programs is highly desirable.
