Job summary

Midland School District/Midland Elementary in Floral, Arkansas seeks a caring one-to-one paraprofessional to support a student with autism throughout the school day. You will help the student participate in classroom learning, routines, and school activities aligned with the student’s IEP.

Work under the direction of the classroom teacher and special education team, encouraging independence, communication, and meaningful participation, while observing progress and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and Praxis Parapro requirement, or 60 college credits, or an associate's degree.
• Experience supporting children or students is preferred; experience in special education or with autistic students is a plus.
• Strong communication, patience, reliability, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow written plans, take direction, and remain calm in changing situations.
• Ability to complete required background checks and training.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized support during classroom instruction, transitions, school activities, and other assigned parts of the day.
• Follow the student’s IEP, behavior or safety plans, and directions from the supervising teacher and special education staff.
• Support communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and daily routines using strategies identified by the team.
• Adapt support to the student’s needs while promoting choice, dignity, independence, and inclusion.
• Observe and share relevant information about the student’s progress and needs with the supervising teacher.
• Maintain student confidentiality and follow school policies and safety procedures.
