Job summary

Fort Wayne Community School District seeks an attentive instructional assistant to support special education students in classrooms and during school activities. You will provide one-to-one or small-group assistance under licensed staff, helping students access instruction and daily routines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Willing to supervise students in community settings.
• Ability to relate to students, staff and parents.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support to the assigned student throughout the school day and activities as directed.
• Assist the student in accessing instruction, routines and general education environment.
• Modify materials as directed by licensed instructional staff.
• Reinforce concepts and skills previously introduced by teachers.
• Support functional communication across classroom, social and school environments.
• Follow IEP/BIP/educational team plans and maintain records.
• Implement de-escalation strategies and ensure safety and dignity.
• Maintain privacy and assist with transitions, activities and daily routines.
