Job summary

Fort Wayne Community School District Memorial Park Middle School in Fort Wayne, Indiana seeks a 6.5-hour Moderate Mental Disability 1:1 Special Education Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.

Provide one-to-one support to a student with an IEP, assist instructional activities, and help with classroom routines under licensed staff supervision.

Position requires a high school diploma or GED, strong communication skills, and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed in inclusive settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Must be flexible to meet changing needs and relate well with students, staff and parents.
• Strong desire to help young people succeed; positive attitude and ability to complete tasks independently.
• Excellent office, computer, and oral/written communication skills; knowledge of child guidance principles.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous or designated one-to-one support to the assigned student throughout the school day and activities.
• Assist student in accessing instruction, classroom activities, routines, and general education environments.
• Modify or adapt materials as directed by licensed staff.
• Reinforce academic concepts and skills previously introduced.
• Provide prompts, cues, modeling, redirection, and reinforcement per the educational plan.
• Support functional communication across classroom, social, and school environments.
• Use augmentative communication systems and visual supports when applicable.
• Encourage social interaction, peer engagement, and self-advocacy.
• Implement behavioral supports and routines per IEP/BIP.
