Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools Discovery Middle School in Vancouver, WA is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator 1 for intensive academic classroom support. This is a one‑on‑one role with a 6.5 hour day, 9 months per year, starting immediately.

The position requires working with students with disabilities and following IEPs and district policies. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and appropriate college credits or ParaPro assessment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; official transcripts may be requested.
• One of: Associate’s degree with required credits OR 72 quarter/48 semester credits OR ParaPro score 461+.
• Experience with children in educational settings preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with implementing and evaluating IEP goals.
• Provide instructional assistance and manage student behavior as directed.
• De‑escalate emotional/behavioral crises and follow behavior plans.
• Dispense medications following district policy and ensure student safety.
• Support classroom operations and data collection as assigned.
