Trinity Health's Lacks Cancer Center in Grand Rapids is hiring an Oncology Triage Nurse for a 1st shift, full-time role. The RN will support Radiation and Medical Oncology through telephone and electronic triage, providing guidance and care coordination to patients.

Qualified candidates hold an ADN (BSN preferred), an active Michigan RN license, and at least one year of RN experience. Oncology experience or OCN certification is preferred, with a plan to obtain certification if not already held.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing school and program.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
• In Grand Rapids, ADN-holders must enroll in a BSN within six months and complete within four years of hire.
• Current RN license in Michigan.
• One year of RN experience required; new grads may apply through RN Residency program with February, July, October cohorts.
• Oncology nursing experience preferred.
• Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred, or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe after hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient calls, symptom concerns, treatment questions, and MyChart/in-basket inquiries in a timely, compassionate manner.
• Assess patient needs, prioritize concerns by urgency, and facilitate appropriate interventions in collaboration with the care team.

Description

The Oncology Triage Nurse serves as a key clinical resource supporting both Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology practices through telephone and electronic (MyChart/in-basket) triage. This role is responsible for responding to patient calls, symptom concerns, treatment-related questions, and electronic inquiries in a timely, efficient, and compassionate manner, ensuring patients receive appropriate guidance and care coordination throughout their oncology journey.

Working closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members, the Oncology Triage Nurse assesses patient needs, prioritizes concerns based on clinical urgency, and facilitates appropriate interventions. Utilizing clinical expertise, critical thinking, and a thorough understanding of provider practice patterns, this clinician independently manages routine patient care needs within established protocols while identifying situations that require provider consultation or escalation. The role is instrumental in promoting patient safety, enhancing the patient experience, and ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care across Radiation and Medical Oncology services.

Position Summary

Registered Nurse, RN works in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team providing evidenced based medicine and individualized patient care. A Registered Nurse, RN is expected to facilitate all aspects of the patient visit experience.

What you will need

• Graduation from an accredited nursing school and program.

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
