Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking an Oncology Referral Specialist for the Potsdam, NY location to serve as the initial contact for patients, families and referral sources within the cancer center. You will coordinate referrals to ensure timely evaluation and care, following all active referrals and ensuring proper processing and authorization.

The role requires strong communication, 3 years in health care, and an Associate's Degree (or HS diploma).

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in a health care setting.
• Associate's Degree in a related field or HS diploma is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide telephone and in-person screening and initial contact with referrals.
• Coordinate intake and referral process and determine priority needs.
• Arrange testing with physician, patient, facility and payer; obtain third-party approval.
• Obtain procedure and diagnosis codes to authorize testing.
• Refer self-pay and out-of-network patients to payment resources.
• Complete pre-certification/authorization with the patient's insurer.
• Document authorization and contact details.
• Notify patients of schedules and instructions.
• Monitor attendance and follow-up of referrals.
• Track volumes of testing and appointments.
• Other duties as assigned.
