Job summary

Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians with procedures, phlebotomy, lab testing, and accurate entry of patient data in the EMR system.

You will perform blood draws, prepare specimens, manage quality control logs, coordinate outside testing, and assist with vitals and patient preparation. The role requires attention to safety, inventory, and compassionate patient care in a multi-site oncology setting.

Qualifications

• High School or GED is required.
• BLS certification required.
• Valid driver's license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed.
• One year of medical assistant experience in a clinic or physician's office with venipuncture ability.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory blood work with proper quality control procedures.
• Assist physicians with medical procedures and phlebotomy.
• Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
• Maintain test report and QA/QC logs and equipment records.
• Document patient data in EMR and prepare encounter forms for billing.
• Obtain vital signs and patient information as requested by the physician.
• Schedule outside testing and coordinate referrals when needed.
• Maintain supplies inventory and place orders as required.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations in the lab.
