Job summary

Texas Oncology in McAllen, TX seeks a Pharmacy/Admixture Technician to join our clinic team. This role supports sterile and non-sterile admixture, medication prep, and inventory control under supervision of a pharmacist.

Ideal candidates have IV skills, oncology exposure, and licensure/certifications; Level 1–Sr paths reflect experience. The position offers a Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm schedule and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy.
• Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
• IV certification Preferred.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
• Minimum five to seven years of experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
• Oncology background preferred or extensive IV preparation experience.
• Completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
• Check all orders for completeness and verify patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Admix drugs as ordered by a physician in an accurate and timely manner, adhering to department, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Assist in controlled substance record keeping in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal regulations.
• Dispose of materials used in mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal law.
• Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs for protocol and patient assistance drugs.
• Manage inventory with proper documentation of quantities, lot numbers and expiration dating.
• Provide support across the medication use continuum including label preparation, documentation, basic data entry and pre-billing review.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and the pharmacy department in accordance with state rules and USP compliance.
