Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care Quad Cities Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy is seeking a pharmacy technician to assist under pharmacist supervision with sterile compounding, including chemotherapy and hazardous medications, in a controlled infusion setting.

You will work within a team to maintain compliance with USP 797/800, SOPs, and regulatory standards while supporting training and clinical collaboration across disciplines to optimize oncology patient care.

Qualifications

• Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire.
• National certification through the PTCB or NHA with ongoing CE requirements.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program or two years of related post‑high school experience in the natural sciences.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, prepare sterile compounds including chemotherapy and hazardous medications.
• Perform aseptic techniques and maintain cleanroom and related documentation.
• Assist with inventory, audits, and drug counts under guidance of pharmacists and coordinators.
• Handle narcotics and controlled substances with appropriate counts and surveillance.
• Assist with training of new technicians and student technicians.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other staff to support patient care.
