Job summary

UW Medical Center in Seattle is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support busy oncology units. The role focuses on efficient communication, patient flow, and coordination of admissions, transfers and discharges.

Per diem days and a varied weekly schedule help meet patient needs. As part of UW Medicine, the coordinator will use Epic, Teams, and Outlook to maintain organized documentation and ensure timely patient care, with opportunities for professional growth and teamwork across the care

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent required.
• One year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Equivalency may substitute for minimum qualifications except for legal requirements such as a license, certification, or registration.

Responsibilities

• Thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment where multitasking and strong organizational skills are essential.
• Provide staff, providers, and patients with an efficient system of internal and external communications, including answering phones and triaging call lights.
• Respond to patient and family inquiries in a timely, courteous, and accurate manner.
• Assist in maintaining a welcoming and organized unit environment for patients, families, and staff.
• Work closely with the charge RN to help manage patient flow, prioritize unit needs, and coordinate admits, transfers, and discharges.
• Prepare and compile discharge packets to support timely and safe patient discharges.
• Coordinate transportation and appropriate paperwork for patient transfers and diagnostic testing.
• Handle unit paperwork, including patient chart maintenance, consent forms, and other documentation.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and restock as needed. Utilize computer systems such as Epic, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook for communication, documentation, and coordination.
• Partner with all members of the care team to prioritize patient satisfaction and exceptional care delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned
