Job summary

NCLA Norwegian Cruise Line America is seeking an Assistant Carpenter to join our shipboard maintenance team. You will dismantle, assemble and finish carpentry work, building wood or metal structures and maintaining safety on board.

The role requires 1 year of related experience, basic to intermediate English, and STCW training. You will operate hand and power tools, work in a multicultural crew, and support entertainment set construction as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year prior experience as an Assistant Carpenter or two years as a maintenance worker is required.
  • Basic to Intermediate knowledge and experience using assorted hand tools and power tools is required.
  • Basic to Intermediate level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
  • The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
  • Education: Highschool diploma or foreign equivalent; STCW training is required.
  • Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.
  • Attributes: Passionate about hospitality and customer service; professional appearance and hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices.
  • Assemble and fasten material together to construct wood or metal framework of structure, using bolts, nails, or screws.
  • Finish surfaces of woodwork or wallboard in houses or buildings, using paint, hand tools, or paneling.
  • Fill cracks or other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch.
  • Follow safety rules and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Assist entertainment department occasionally to build or repair show sets.
