Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks an Employee in Charge (EIC) to deliver essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and industry partners.

The role emphasizes coordination, safety compliance, and field reporting in a dynamic railroad environment. The EIC will manage safety at work sites, set up safety tools, brief crews, and communicate with dispatchers to maintain safe operations.

Qualifications

• Requires proficiency with tablets, smartphones, and communication tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to travel for extended periods; sometimes months at a time.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company preferably in the maintenance of way department.
• Ability to complete Federal, Client, and/or Company Specific Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety such as set up of derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report on any rule violations.
• Provide job-site coordination.
• Radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews to communicate worksite safety status.
• Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
• Enforce all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
