Job summary

Camp Kern seeks a Resident Camp Summer Village Leader to provide leadership for campers, ensure safety, and support growth during the summer program. Requires caring for children and maintaining welfare with supervision and effective communication with families.

The role involves overseeing multiple villages, coordinating activities, and mentoring staff while living on-site for the season. Must be 18+ and able to engage children creatively in a dynamic camp setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be over the age of 18.
• One or more years of related childcare experience required.
• Must know how to actively engage children in activities that will enhance their self-esteem.
• Creativity, initiative, flexibility, eagerness to serve, ability to involve others, strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with guests are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Assist with managing up to 2 villages and counselors.
• Support child management, de-escalation, and daily prep.
• Plan cabin and village activities according to camp schedule.
• Communicate camper behavioral issues to directors when needed.
• Interact with parents during check-in/check-out as directed by leadership.
• Provide on-call cabin support for overnight issues.
• Mentor staff to develop skills and deliver positive camp experiences.
• Substitute as cabin counselor when needed.
• Implement weekly lesson plans matching children's needs and development.
• Work as a team with Camp Kern staff.
• Lead camp songs and participate in campfire activities.
• Lead large-group activities (games, campfires, high ropes, climbing wall, hayrides, canoeing, night hikes).
• Enforce aquatic safety rules and Camp Kern policies.
