Job summary

YMCA Camp Kern in Ohio is seeking a Summer Camp Leader to provide leadership for campers and staff while ensuring safety and growth. You will mentor staff, help plan and deliver safe, fun activities, and supervise evening programs, activities, and trips. This on-site role requires living on site and a weekend stay.

The position emphasizes strong communication with parents, adherence to ACA rules, and maintaining appropriate camper ratios. Must be 21+ with childcare experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-year college degree preferred.
• Must be over the age of 21.
• One or more years of related childcare experience required.
• Must know how to actively engage children in activities that will enhance their self-esteem.
• Creative, initiative, flexibility, eagerness to serve, ability to involve others, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with guests are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Assists counselors and directors with child management, de-escalation, and day-to-day preparation.
• Plans cabin specific and village activities according to camp schedule.
• Communicates camper behavioral issues to directors as needed.
• Mentors staff to develop skills and provide a positive camp experience.
• Takes lead with the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities.
• Learn and teach camp songs around a campfire; participate in dining hall setup; lead large group activities while ensuring safety.
