Job summary

RUIZ in the United States is seeking an Electric Substation Construction Manager to oversee all field activities for high and medium voltage substations. You will coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and utility representatives to deliver projects from mobilization to energization, ensuring safety, schedule, and quality.

The role requires seven plus years in substation construction, supervisory experience, knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC, OSHA, and proficiency in reading

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in substation or high-voltage electrical construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong knowledge of substation construction processes, including foundations, steel erection, buswork, control house installation, and equipment wiring.
• Experience with utility companies, EPC contractors, or transmission/distribution projects is highly desirable.
• Proven leadership and personnel management skills.
• In-depth knowledge of construction methods, standards, and best practices for high-voltage facilities.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and communication abilities.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Oversee substation construction activities, including site prep, foundations, steel erection, equipment installation, wiring, grounding, and commissioning support.
• Ensure adherence to drawings, specs, and applicable codes (IEEE, NESC, NEC, OSHA).
• Manage daily field operations, scheduling, logistics, and material management.
• Oversee subcontractors, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity.
• Review progress and align with milestones and budget targets.
• Enforce safety programs, conduct inspections and toolbox talks.
• Maintain quality control and promptly resolve deficiencies.
• Serve as on-site liaison with project management, engineers, and client reps.
• Provide mentorship to construction teams and promote teamwork.
