Job summary

Goodman Community Center in Madison, Wisconsin is seeking an experienced Controller to provide strategic financial leadership and ensure the organization's long-term financial health. This fully on-site role partners closely with leadership, supervises finance staff, and supports day-to-day operations through in-person collaboration.

As Controller, you will oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, audits, compliance, and treasury functions for GCC and its subsidiaries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Wisconsin CPA license (active).
• At least five years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grant compliance, audits, and financial reporting.
• Experience with US GAAP financial statements.
• Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with ERP systems; QuickBooks preferred.
• Excel proficiency (Microsoft Office).

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, audit, compliance, and treasury functions for GCC and subsidiaries.
• Partner with organizational leaders to provide timely financial information and strengthen internal controls.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead month-end close and supervise finance team staff.
• Coordinate annual audits and IRS Form 990 preparation.
• Maintain cash flow projections and optimize banking relationships.
• Monitor investments and annual 5500 reporting with HR.
• Lead the Finance Team and supervise direct reports.
• Develop and manage budgets across administration, operations, development, and programming.
