Job summary

Goodwill of Western New York is seeking a Controller to serve as a strategic partner to the CFO, leading day-to-day accounting operations in a mission-driven organization. This onsite, hands-on leadership role requires balancing big-picture financial strategy with detailed transactional work across reporting, payroll, grants, audits, and internal controls.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
• CPA and nonprofit accounting experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls

Responsibilities

• Lead financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, budgeting support, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance
• Oversee payroll accounting, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and cash management
• Prepare reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and other accounting work as needed
• Lead annual audit preparation and required regulatory reporting
• Support grant reporting and reimbursement requests
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems and processes
• Manage and develop the Accounting Department
• Partner with leaders to resolve issues and support informed decisions
