Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager II to oversee safety on Jackson, MS project sites and water and commercial projects throughout the Southeast.

The role focuses on leading safety initiatives, training, and compliance with federal and state regulations. Responsibilities include conducting pre-construction meetings, developing site-specific safety plans, performing safety audits, coaching teams, and coordinating incident investigations.

Qualifications

• MS Office proficiency.
• Data analysis skills.
• First Aid certified.
• OSHA standards knowledge.
• Excellent listening and communication skills.
• Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
• Strong team player with a proactive attitude.
• Competence in Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Excavation & Trenching.
• OSHA 500 certification.
• CPR/First Aid/AED trained.
• English and Spanish speaking required.

Responsibilities

• Safety resource for jobsites in Jackson, MS for water and commercial projects.
• Develop and implement current safety training programs as required, including Competent Person classes.
• Identify safety training needs and provide safety training as appropriate.
• Conduct project pre-construction meetings and review site-specific safety plans.
• Conduct safety assessment to track trends and ensure compliance with company, Federal, and State regulatory standards.
• Assists Project Management in developing site-specific safety plans.
• Coach project team members on safety leadership & management practices.
• Review Safety Task Assessment STA to provide feedback for improvement.
• Conducts equipment training and evaluations.
• Be able to deliver reports.
• Conduct documented safety walks when visiting jobs via KPA EHS software.
• Conduct incident investigations to prevent future occurrences.
• Be able to assist injured employees in managing risk.
• Set up clinics and hospitals before the job starts.
