Job summary

AECOM seeks a Project Engineer, Signaling and Train Control for on-site roles in California. You will lead signaling engineering for railway projects, covering ETCS Level 2, automatic route setting, interlockings, and regulatory compliance.

Travel 25–50% across the Central Valley region is expected. The role requires a strong background in signaling, systems integration, and safety-critical rail applications, with experience from design through testing to final acceptance.

Qualifications

• BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency.
• Experience taking signaling systems from design through testing, commissioning, and final acceptance.
• Strong knowledge of systems integration and safety-critical railway applications.
• Experience developing and reviewing engineering deliverables on large transportation infrastructure projects.
• Experience witnessing Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and approve signaling engineering deliverables throughout design, construction, and testing and commissioning.
• Ensure technical documentation is complete, coordinated, and developed per program standards.
• Support requirements management, system architecture development, and interface definition for train control.
• Review supplier/contractor designs for compliance with project specifications.
• Coordinate interfaces between signaling, telecommunications, rolling stock, track, and operations teams.
• Provide technical oversight for ETCS Level 2, ARC, CBTC/PTC/ATP/ATO systems.
• Support regulatory submissions and create documentation for safety and approvals.
• Work with safety assurance teams and authorities to obtain required certifications.
• Develop and review test plans, procedures, and commissioning strategies.
