Job summary

University of Miami is seeking an Accountant for the Coral Gables Campus to oversee the department’ s internal accounting and reporting functions. The position focuses on budget formulation, monitoring accounts, and ensuring funds availability in line with university policies.

Key duties include preparing balance sheets and P&L statements, analyzing revenue and costs, and supporting the year-end close. Strong Excel and Adobe Acrobat skills are required, with at least one year of related

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel; proficient in MS Office products, including Word and Outlook.
  • Experience with journal vouchers and accounting classifications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
  • Analyze trends, costs, revenues, and obligations to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Report finances to management and suggest resource utilization and budget assumptions.
  • Verify accuracy of journal vouchers and classifications.
  • Examine and reconcile expenditure and revenue accounts.
  • Review reimbursements, purchase orders, and related documents.
  • Assist with year-end close and accrual entries.
  • Develop, audit, and monitor fiscal reports for projects and operations.
  • Meet with project managers to discuss financial issues and discrepancies.
  • Post journal entries and perform account reconciliations.
