Job summary

Plain Dealing Lumber, LLC is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function, ensure GAAP compliance, and manage financial reporting in a lean environment. You will work closely with plant leadership and ownership, directing a small team and coordinating audits from a hands-on ledger and close perspective.

The role is fully on-site at the Plain Dealing, Louisiana facility, with responsibility for budgeting, cost accounting, and internal controls across the company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CPA designation or active progress with clear timeline.
• 5–7 years in progressive accounting roles; 2–3 years in controller-level role.
• Solid GAAP knowledge, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate to non-finance stakeholders.
• Proficiency with accounting software (QBooks/Sage/SAP/Oracle) and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Oversee full-cycle accounting: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll support, fixed assets, reconciliations.
• Own monthly close; prepare journal entries and schedules; deliver monthly statements.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports for President and ownership; meet deadlines.
• Develop and monitor internal controls; ensure proper segregation of duties.
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital; assist budgeting.
• Oversee cost accounting and inventory valuation; provide margin analysis.
• Coordinate tax compliance and work with external advisors; support audits.
• Supervise accounting team; set goals, coach, and ensure deadlines.
• Evaluate accounting systems and reporting tools; support upgrades as needed.
