Job summary

Space Ground Systems Solutions (SGSS), a Parsons company, is seeking a full-time, on-site Network Engineer to support the operation and growth of SGSS and NRL network infrastructure, primarily located at the Alexandria, VA office.

The role emphasizes hands-on maintenance of enterprise networks (Cisco, Palo Alto), VPNs, and site-to-site connectivity with cloud exposure as a plus; candidates will collaborate with senior staff and support multiple locations including Welcome, MD and Washington, DC.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on network engineering, administration, or support experience.
• Experience maintaining enterprise network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
• Knowledge of OSPF, BGP, VLANs, and Layer 2/3 switching.
• Experience with Cisco and Palo Alto equipment in enterprise or data center environments.
• Understanding of network security, firewall rules, VPN configuration, and access control.
• Familiarity with RMF and CMMC control families and security compliance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support network infrastructure (Cisco, Palo Alto) including firewalls, routers, switches, LANs, WANs, VPNs, and wireless networks.
• Implement configuration changes per approved architecture and design direction.
• Assist in planning and deployment of cloud network infrastructure in AWS (VPCs, VPNs, security groups).
• Apply security best practices in all activities and escalate concerns.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, SOPs, and configuration records.
• Support program engineering activities including configuration management and training documentation.
• Respond to tickets (Slack/GitLab) and provide Tier 2/3 support.
• Evaluate and implement network solutions with senior staff.
• Support hardware lifecycle activities including upgrades and patching.
• Coordinate with vendors for procurement and delivery of network products.
