Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Metallurgist to lead metallurgical operations at a major mining site in Welkom, South Africa. You will optimize processing circuits, supervise lab work, and drive continuous improvement across crushing, grinding, flotation, and refining to maximize recovery and product quality.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering, at least six years in mineral processing, strong data analysis, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years in mineral processing and metallurgy within mining.
• Proven experience in optimizing flotation circuits and metal recovery.
• Strong knowledge of comminution (crushing/grinding).
• Proficiency with metallurgical simulation software and data analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership, team management, and collaboration abilities.
• Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental legislation.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize all aspects of the mineral processing plant, including comminution and flotation.
• Conduct metallurgical test work and pilot plant trials to evaluate processes.
• Analyze data to improve recovery, grade, and throughput.
• Develop control strategies for product quality and stability.
• Troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and boost efficiency.
• Manage the metallurgical laboratory and ensure timely analysis.
• Collaborate with geologists to understand ore characteristics.
• Develop and manage the metallurgical budget and cost control.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Mentor and train junior metallurgists and operators.
