Job summary

Alpha School is seeking a Youth Development Coach to lead K–3 reading progress through app-based instruction on-site at a California campus. You will guide daily routines, run short literacy sessions for small groups, and monitor weekly goals using classroom tools and gamified incentives.

Applicants should have at least 3 years working with children 4–9, 2 years teaching reading in K–3, and completed structured-literacy training or a master’s in reading. Relocation support is available.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years directly with children ages 4–9 in relevant settings (teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, etc).
• At least 2 years of that experience teaching reading in grades K-3 within the last 5 years.
• Completed structured-literacy training (LETRS, IMSE, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Fundations, UFLI, CERI, Neuhaus, SIPPS, RGR, or similar) or a master’s in reading or literacy.
• Comfortable spending about 90% of the day guiding students through app-based learning and routines, 10% on reading sessions.
• Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship

Responsibilities

• Coaching students through app-based core learning and identifying gaps.
• Running short, structured-literacy sessions with small groups; diagnosing gaps and teaching a sequence you designed.
• Leading morning launch, life-skills workshops, and check-chart activities.
• Driving students to weekly app goals with school currency and gamification.
• Staying with students through lunch, recess, and closing with a plan for frustrated students
