Job summary

George Mason University Facilities & Campus Operations is seeking a General Maintenance Technician II to support a safe, functional campus at Manassas SciTech. The role requires essential personnel status and a valid driver’s license.

You will perform skilled building maintenance, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, door hardware work, window treatments, and preventive maintenance while traveling to sites and coordinating with vendors.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of progressive experience in carpentry and general maintenance.
• Typically 5+ years in commercial carpentry and multiple construction trades.
• Knowledge of safety precautions and use of common trade tools.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions, plus technical diagrams and manuals.
• Active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license meeting GMU Vehicle Use Policy 1411.

Responsibilities

• Under minimal supervision, performs varied skilled building maintenance, repair, and construction tasks across trades.
• Performs minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs; inspects and orders parts.
• Installs and maintains door closers, panic devices, and switches on automatic/handicap doors.
• Inspects and orders parts for pivots and hinges, installs window treatments.
• Conducts preventive maintenance and reports major repairs to supervisor.
• Maintains paperwork and electronic communications including work orders and time tracking.
• Drives a vehicle to sites, ensuring tools and materials are stocked and vehicle is maintained.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
