Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our client’s on-site team in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on guiding families, linking them to services, and developing personalized support plans to foster wellbeing and stability.

You will conduct home and office assessments, collaborate with educators and social workers, and advocate for families to access resources. A Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child and Family Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with families in a support or counseling capacity.
• Knowledge of child development, family systems theory, and intervention strategies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse families.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-home and office assessments of family strengths, needs, and challenges.
• Develop and implement individualized family support plans with families.
• Provide direct support and counseling to families on parenting, conflict resolution, and child development.
• Connect families with community resources and educational programs.
• Monitor progress and adjust plans to meet client goals.
• Facilitate family group sessions and workshops to strengthen parenting skills.
• Maintain confidential case files documenting interventions and outcomes.
• Collaborate with educators, healthcare providers, and social workers for holistic support.
• Advocate for families to access services from relevant agencies.
• Respond to crisis situations with immediate support and referrals.
